A wave of server-side tracking tools has appeared to solve one real problem: conversions lost in the browser. They forward events server-side so ad blockers and iOS stop eating your data. That part is genuinely useful, and SetRoasFlow does it too. The difference is what happens after the event is delivered.
What server-side tracking tools do
A typical server-side tracking tool sits between your site and the ad platforms. It receives events and re-sends them server-side, often with deduplication against your browser pixel. That fixes delivery: more conversions reach Meta and Google.
It is a pipe. A better pipe than a browser pixel, but still a pipe. Once the event is forwarded, the tool is done with it.
What a customer data layer adds
SetRoasFlow includes that server-side delivery, then keeps the data and does more with it:
- Unified profiles. Anonymous visits and known customers resolve into one first-party profile with lifetime value, order history and repeat status.
- Segments. Build rule-based audiences from those profiles: VIPs, repeat buyers, lapsed customers.
- Activation. Push segments to ad platforms as custom audiences, and sync them to your CRM, without code.
- On-site personalization. Show content per segment, decided at the edge before the page paints.
- Warehouse export. Stream every raw event, in a stable schema, to your own BigQuery, Snowflake, S3 or webhook, so you own the data.

Which one do you need
If all you want is to stop losing conversions in the browser, a server-side tracking tool solves that. If you also want to understand who your customers are, build audiences from them, activate those audiences, and keep your own raw data, you want the layer, not just the pipe.
SetRoasFlow starts where server-side tracking tools stop. Delivery is the entry point. The customer data layer, profiles, segments, activation and export, is the product.
